For decades, IVD instruments for clinical chemistry testing relied primarily on absorbance measurement with light generated by Halogen lamps. Due to the required illumination at high intensity, the lifetime of these lamps has been very limited. Halogen lamps have to be exchanged every 3-6 months, and the resulting downtime from replacing lamps and from recalibrating the measurements are key drawbacks for productivity in the clinical laboratory.
